The said on its Facebook page the driver had only had his P1 licence for less than a month when he was pulled over. P1 drivers aren't allowed to use their mobile phone behind the wheel under any circumstances. The penalty is five demerit points and a $410 fine.
The driver was issued with "a number of infringement notices", with his licence suspended on the spot for six months. His vehicle and plates weren't confiscated, however, as the X-Trail he was driving belonged to somebody else.
