Poyos, Jurado show way as UST hold off Nitura, Adamson

Poyos and Jurado joined hands in the fourth where they delivered timely hits that forced an extension to completely grab the momentum and outshine Nitura who had another explosive showing for the Lady Falcons.

UST ended its three-game losing streak while also improving its slate to 6-4. “Mostly emotions na ‘yong nagdi-dictate no’ng three and four [sets], tactically, nando’n naman kaya lang may ibang factor kaya naging ganun ‘yong resulta ng galaw namin,” said UST head coach Kungfu Reyes. “And luckily, no’ng bandang dulo ng bandang dulo ng fourth set, do’n na sila nag-start maka-recover.



.. that’s the time na sinabi namin sa kanila na wag nilang bitawan,” he added.

Poyos steered the Espana-based squad after finishing with 27 points built on 25 attacks, one block and one ace along with seven excellent digs and 15 excellent receptions. Jurado, for her part, registered 20 points with 18 excellent digs and four excellent receptions, while Cassie Carballo tallied 25 excellent sets. Super rookie Nitura, meanwhile, pumped in 36 points off 32 kills, three blocks, and one ace with 11 excellent digs and nine excellent receptions.

It marked the third 30-point game for the promising spiker from Cainta, Rizal. Her fellow freshman Frances Mordi also dazzled with 21 points but in a losing cause as Adamson suffered its seventh loss against three victories at ninth spot..
