THE Southern Highlands Provincial Government is pleased to announce that the Provincial Member William Powi has officially received the keys to his new office in Mendi. The Mendi Valley Plaza, was destroyed by the 2018 earthquake and the provincial government contracted Pacifica Construction Limited of Australia to maintain the building. The rehabilitation is part of the construction and rebuilding of all major infrastructures in Mendi, including the 7-storey Agiru Centre, the Muruk Lodge as well as the rebuilding of the burnt National Courthouse.
Mr Powi said the refurbishment marks a significant step forward in enhancing the operational capabilities of the provincial government, enabling improved service delivery and responsiveness to the needs of the people of the Southern Highlands. He said the rehabilitation and maintenance work, conducted by Pacifica Construction Limited from Australia, has restored and modernised the Mendi Valley Plaza, ensuring that it is now well-equipped to serve as an efficient hub for provincial governance. The improved office will also play a crucial role in coordinating major upcoming events, such as the 8th PNG Games – renamed the Unity Games – set to be hosted across the province in 2025.
The enhanced facilities will support the organisation and management of this significant event. The upgraded office will directly improve the Southern Highlands Provincial Government’s ability to deliver essential public services, facilitate community development, coordinate district-level programs, and ensure effective provincial administration. Mr Powi expressed his gratitude to Arthur Jones and the team at Pacifica Construction for their dedication and expertise in delivering this project.
“With our office reopening in Mendi, we are making the government more accessible and better able to meet the needs of our people. These new facilities will help us coordinate services like health, education, infrastructure, and community development more effectively. “I thank Arthur Jones and the Pacifica Construction team for their hard work on this project.
” “Our goal is to bring the government closer to the people. “This refurbished office will help us deliver services more efficiently and improve how we respond to community needs,” he said..
