Power prices to increase ahead of winter – what you need to know

With winter coming, electricity price rises will add more strain for struggling Kiwis.

Household power bills are set to rise between $10 and $25 a month . Consumers already pay an average of $2343 for electricity annually, or about $195 a month. In February this year, there were 62,740 customers with accounts more than 30 days past due.

Households will soon see their power bills increasing by as much as $25 a month with winter knocking on our doorstep. The rise in electricity costs comes after the Commerce Commission’s decision to allow increased investment in the electricity network. This will result in the average consumer’s electricity bill increasing by $10 per month ($120 a year) from April, but in some areas the average increase is as much as $25 a month.



Meridian told the Herald customers will on average have an increase of 8.4% or around $18 a month..
