KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has been urged to take appropriate action against a company responsible for causing a week-long power outage at four educational institutions in Sandakan.Arunarnsin Taib (Warisan–Gum-Gum) said that a company had been tasked with managing the electricity supply. However, due to outstanding payments owed to Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), rationing was implemented, leading to significant inconvenience for both students and lecturers.

"I urge the government to take action against the company," he said during a debate at the state legislative assembly, referring to the incident which occurred during the fasting month.Datuk Mokran Ingkat (Umno–Sungai Manila) expressed his shock over the power disconnection at the four educational institutions within the Sandakan education hub."Thankfully, Tanjung Keramat assemblyman and Sabah Public Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya intervened to help restore the electricity supply.

"I would like to ask the government: can we be assured that this incident will not occur again? If it does, no new institutions will want to establish themselves in this area, and it may become a breeding ground for squatter settlements."Meanwhile, Mokran commended the Ministry of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship for its efforts to establish an electric vehicle (EV) industry in Sandakan, which is expected to create 500 jobs. However, he urged the ministry to ensure the project is realised by 2028, as promised in the media.

Datuk Ben Chong Chen Bin (Gagasan–Tanjong Kapor) also welcomed the state cabinet's approval to establish an industrial park based on the blue economy concept in Kudat."It is scheduled to be implemented from 2026 to 2030. I hope the proposal will be realised within the given timeframe," he added.
