POTTSTOWN, PA — Cristina Hostetter, founder of The Simplified Home by Cristina , has transformed her innate knack for organizing into a flourishing business serving Chester, Montgomery, and Berks counties. The former teacher and Spring-Ford High School graduate offers clients solutions for decluttering, downsizing, home staging, and moving preparation. Hostetter, who relocated to southeastern Pennsylvania in March 2024, credits much of her success to guidance from SCORE TriCounty mentors Susan Shenberger and Stefan Laessig.
“Having their support and their guidance gives you as the business owner a sense of confidence that I don’t think you’d be able to have unless you have a mentor showing you the right way to do things,” said Hostetter. “They saved me so much time and so many guesses.” Since launching her business, demand for Hostetter’s services has surged, prompting her to hire two assistants.
With Laessig’s help, she used a projection spreadsheet to evaluate the impact of adding staff. “I was able to look at (the projections) and realize that my goals were even closer than I had anticipated,” she said. “I was able to jump so many extra steps.
” “She’s pretty on the ball,” Laessig said, praising Hostetter’s proactive approach and dedication. While her business focuses on relieving stress for clients, Hostetter also shares tips for tackling clutter at home. “It sounds so simple, but truly taking everything out of the space that you’re working on and actually handling each item is going to help you make a decision on whether to keep something or not,” she explained.
She further advises people to resist buying organizing products too early in the process. “Organizing and decluttering can be absolutely free,” she added. Recognizing that decluttering can be emotionally overwhelming, Hostetter emphasizes empathy and guidance.
“It can get really deep and really challenging for them,” she said. “How do you take a lifetime of collected items and beautiful memories and decide what to bring with you?” With her passion for organizing, support from SCORE TriCounty, and a growing team, Hostetter continues to help her clients create simplified, functional spaces that bring peace of mind.
