CONYERS – A controversial decision was made during the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners (BOC) last meeting on Dec. 10. After originally voting to refer the request to rezone 113 acres on Walker Road back to the Conyers-Rockdale Planning Commission for 2025, the commissioners reconsidered their decision and approved the rezoning request.

The fight to rezone the properties at 1680, 1700 and 1720 Walker Road has been met with roadblocks and strong opposition from the community since it was originally proposed in 2023. The request was reintroduced in front of the planning commission in September 2024 after the request was redrawn by developers DR Horton at the beginning of the year. The planning commission has continuously recommended denial of the request despite adjustments made to the proposed development plan.
