Post Fiji on Friday announced the renewal of its rural banking services agreement with BSP Bank. BSP Bank currently offers banking services at 36 post offices. Post Fiji chief executive officer Isaac Mow acknowledged the partnership, and the company’s banking roots.

“Banking services is nothing new to Post Fiji. In fact, when the post office started, it also started with the post savings bank, which then became the National Bank of Fiji and then Colonial and now BSP,” he said. “We’re glad to be part of that journey and to partner again with BSP in providing rural banking services to those out in the far-flung areas of Fiji.

” This signing follows a tri-party agreement signed earlier this week between Post Fiji, BSP Bank and the Ministry of Finance, which aims to help improve financial services access in rural communities. “Post Fiji’s infrastructure in rural and remote Fiji allows us to extend our branch service to our customers in these areas,” BSP Bank acting country head Rajeshwar Singh said. “Our rural customers are able to make deposits, withdraw cash up to $500 a day, reset their debit card PIN numbers, have their BSP debit card replaced, and check the account balances.

Customers can also apply for new bank accounts with BSP.” Mr Singh added that rural customers could also take advantage of BSP’s digital banking services platform, on which over 90 per cent of transactions occur. “Through this partnership led by the Government, Post Fiji has been a trusted agent in rolling out our service to reach Fiji’s unbanked population, and they continue to facilitate people’s access to banking service, which in turn also boost economic activity, rural economy, and Fiji as a whole.

“We have seen how this collaboration has transformed lives and communities, and we are excited about what the future holds as we continue to innovate and expand our services.” Feedback: jernese.macanawai@fijisun.
