The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly asking for a lot on the trade market for young forward Cameron Johnson.

The San Antonio Spurs have been linked to everyone available on the NBA trade market this offseason, but have mostly stood pat, only adding Harrison Barnes in a low-risk deal with the Chicago Bulls and Sacramento Kings. As the Spurs look to surround Victor Wembanyama with solid young talent, players who can space the floor are a clear priority in San Antonio. One player they have been linked to, Cameron Johnson of the Brooklyn Nets, might not be as cheap as initially assumed.

He is an adequate, if not solid, defender. On offense, the 28-year-old averaged 13.4 points on 55.

7 effective field goal percentage and shot 39.1 percent from deep. He is on a team-friendly contract for the next three seasons, making between $20 and $23 million each year.

The Spurs should be able to offer a future first-round pick and Harrison Barnes for Johnson, securing a better version of the veteran sharpshooter who could be a key role player moving forward. A long-term starting lineup of Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, Cameron Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, and Victor Wembanyama with Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Keldon Johnson, and Julian Champagnie coming off the bench would be a solid playoff roster. The Spurs have up to four draft picks in 2025, which boasts one of the best draft classes in recent memory, so the Spurs could add another key player next summer.
