Port of the Plains continues to plan for transloading area

Board members of the inland port authority at Hershey’s rail park moved forward Monday toward building a transloading facility to load and unload cargo. The Nebraska International Port of the Plains board voted to have rail-park consultant TranSystems prepare designs and bid documents, said Chairman Vince Dugan. A “drop and pull yard” parallel to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks is expected to be part of the inland port’s first development project at the 300-acre rail park on Hershey’s east edge.

Monday’s monthly meeting took place a week earlier than usual following the board’s failure to obtain a quorum for its regular Aug. 26. Dugan said board members will next meet Oct.
