A hugely successful Sussex author has been recognised in the King’s New Year Honours list. Dame Jacqueline Wilson has been made a Dame Grand Cross for her services to literature. The author, who lives near Alfriston, has written more than 100 books over the past 55 years.
Her children’s books have tackled a variety of realistic topics such as adoption, relationships, and the challenges of growing up. Some of her most popular titles include The Story of Tracey Beaker, Girls In Love, and The Illustrated Mum. Her most recent release, ‘Think again’, was her first novel targeted to adults since the 1970s and followed on from her popular ‘Girls’ series.
This isn’t her first recognition in the New Year Honours list, having received her DBE in 2008. The Dame Grand Cross is the highest honour which can be bestowed. Dame Jacqueline Wilson is one of 39 people from across Sussex who have been recognised this year.
