The shop was filled with customers perusing a wide selection of wines from across the globe as it opened for the first time on Friday after taking over the former Hair and Sons estate agent offices. Customers were greeted warmly by Jaime who discussed the best wines and which area of Europe they were sourced from, ranging from Galicia in Spain to Beaujolais in France. Jaime, 43, has had his eye on the site for more than four years and was really pleased to move into an area which his wife, Holly, grew up in.
The business also plan to launch their new limited edition gin line, Origin, next week which will see 150 bottles produced and sold at their two shops. Jaime said: “It’s the first day and it’s been really good, everyone has been really supportive. It has taken a while to get here but we wanted to take our time to everything right.
We are just pleased to be open. “We have been keeping an eye on this site for four years and are glad to finally get it. The gin was an idea we had to merge wine and gin together, it should be coming next week.
“At the moment, our focus is on our two shops. We are looking to our beer area in February or March next year. It has taken a while, we did not want to rush things.
We are really delighted it’s all done now and look forward to welcoming customers.” The gin is being made in partnership with the Essex Spirits Company and Hollands Crouch Valley, and will utilise the fresh grapes from the Essex vineyard to flavour the gin. Vino Vero offers a huge selection of 300 wines, spirits, craft beers and craft ciders, as well as popular wine tastings showcasing five to six imported bottles from around the globe, often “quirkier” and exclusive to the shop.
Renovation work begun in July after they signed on the dotted line to take over the space. Jaime recommended any customers looking to try the store’s wine to pick up the albarino wine, Terra de Godos, the Gamay, Beaujolais Nouveau, and sparkling wine La Planta. They cost £19.
95, £22.95, and £235.50 respectively.
