A popular children's show is coming to Brighton. The Great Big Dinosaur Show will be performed at Komedia on Sunday, February 23, with two performances at 11am and 12.30pm.
The show is the creation of Brighton-born National Poetry Day ambassador Simon Mole and TikTok 'sensation' Gecko. The pair have created a show full of poems, raps, and songs about dinosaurs. The show is inspired by Simon Mole’s fourth book, A First Book of Dinosaurs, illustrated by Matt Hunt.
Mr Mole said: "Growing up in Brighton, Komedia was always a venue close to my heart so it's very exciting to be bringing my own show there many years later. "As a dad myself now, and a massive dinosaur fan, it makes me very happy to introduce a few young dino fans to poetry, and the fun they can have playing with words." The show is part of the Sundae Club, offering three hours of creative fun for children at Komedia on the first Sunday of each month.
Families can enjoy a children's theatre performance, a creative craft workshop led by Saj from Pull & Pin and live music. The show is around 50 minutes (Image: Suzi Corker Photography) Peader Kirk also created the show and it's co-produced by Rua Arts and funded by Arts Council England. Mr Mole has more than ten years of experience using poetry with children and families.
He works in schools and libraries around the country and overseas as well. His YouTube videos, used by hundreds of thousands of children and teachers worldwide each year, have also been featured on the BBC. Gecko is a singer-storyteller who has performed globally including at Glastonbury, Latitude, the Southbank Centre, 6 Music, and the BAFTA-winning Sky Arts show Life & Rhymes.
In 2025, he will release his third album, The Big Picture. His songs have gained millions of views on both TikTok and Instagram. As part of the tour, Mr Mole will host a free online Poetry Party on Sunday, March 23, at 4pm, featuring guest poet Arji Manuelpillai.
The Great Big Dinosaur Show is approximately 50 minutes long, with no interval and is ideal for children aged four to 11. Tickets can be booked at the Komedia Brighton website..
