THE Moni Plus-sponsored Port Moresby AFL continued its dominance in the PNG AFL rep train-on teams for the 2024 AFL Pacific Cup. The association is AFL PNG’s pioneer affiliate and players who have gone on representing PNG either in the PNG Binatangs, Kurakums, Flames and Mosquitoes debut from one of the local clubs. Association president Douglas Lai said it is exciting to see the bulk of the players selected from the association.

“It is really rewarding that POM AFL is dominating the sides because apparently, we have a much stronger competition,” he said. One of the notable absences in the PNG Mosquitoes train-on squad is Hewago Paul Oea including other Australian based players. “For Ace (Oea), his eligibility is in question.

..he may not be eligible to play just like Mal Michael back in our time.

.. they are at a different tier level.

” “For Glen Saniong and have other three boys (Australian based) they will join the side eventually,” said Lai. The current train-on squad will then be trimmed down to 25. Lai said they only have two weeks to finalise the squad before the confirm list.

Lai said the AFL Pacific Cup tournament is set for Nov 14-24.
