Kandep MP Don Polye has called on the Porgera-Paiela people to refrain from fighting, declaring that their actions will seriously and negatively impact their own households. Mr Polye said when the company ceases operations as a result of the escalating violence, the economy will decline, resulting in further increases to prices of goods and services as inflation gets worse. “When you affect a flourishing mine like Porgera, it affects your own household.

“You will find inflation will get worse,” Polye cautioned. “You find foreign reserves continue to get depleted. “And you will find your Kina will continue to lose value.

“See, what you did up there in Porgera is not isolated. It is something that has a universal impact on all of the country’s economy, and in terms of international market, as well as the domestic market. “So, people have to realise this.

It is very important that people do know what they do. “The actions do not affect themselves, It affects everyone.”.
