Government politicians and ministers have already started ordering election posters as intense speculation that an election will be held in November continues in Leinster House. Labour leader Ivana Bacik called on Wednesday, for Taoiseach Simon Harris to put an end to rumours and call the election date. Last week at the Fine Gael think in, Mr Harris refused to directly answer a question from the Irish Mirror about whether the election would be 2024 or 2025.

He told Newtalk’s Pat Kenny on Monday that he has not been “as definitive” as saying the election will be in spring 2025. In response to this, Mr Harris told reporters in Derry that the “constitutional prerogative to seek a dissolution of the Dáil is mine as Taoiseach”.

He added: “I don’t intend to provide a running commentary on ‘what about this week, what about this month’. That’s not how we do politics.” However, several Government politicians have told the Irish Mirror they have already started ordering their posters or have received and are waiting to hang them.

It is understood some Fine Gael politicians are awaiting an announcement on Thursday October 10, leading many of them to believe the election will be on either November 8 or November 15. The Irish Mirror also understands that one senior Cabinet minister has placed an order for posters that will be delivered in mid-October, further fueling speculation. Nearly all TDs the Irish Mirror has spoken to about the election date are calling for it to be held in November.

Ms Bacik said on Wednesday in Leinster House that the Taoiseach should end the speculation and let the Government get on with its work. “The reality is that all of us in politics and people around the country believe that the election will be held this November,” she told reporters. “No matter what the Taoiseach is saying about running full term, I think now is the time for the Taoiseach to put an end to this speculation.

It is utterly time wasting. “It's frustrating for everyone around the country. I'm out canvassing all the time myself, and everyone I meet around the country asks me that same question, ‘When is the election?’ “It's consuming time that we should be spending in legislating, that the government should be spending in addressing the chronic housing crisis and the other crises in healthcare and childcare that are absolutely affecting so many people.
