Vengara: Journalist Siddique Kappan has accused the police of deliberately trying to create fear among residents in his locality. Speaking to the media, Kappan stated that although he has been living peacefully while complying with his bail conditions, a police visit to his home on Saturday evening appeared intended to intimidate. While police visits to Kappan’s residence in Vengara have occurred occasionally in the past, this time officers reportedly inquired at neighbouring houses before arriving at his doorstep.

According to Kappan, the police informed his family that a search would be conducted after midnight, despite children and other family members being present in the house during exam season. He noted that the family was kept awake late into the night, waiting in anxiety for the police to arrive. Kappan was arrested in 2020 while en route to Hathras, the village of a Dalit girl who had died after a brutal assault.

The Uttar Pradesh police had detained him under various charges leading to 846 days of imprisonment. He was later released on conditional bail. The recent police visit comes while Kappan continues to reside in his hometown, fully adhering to his bail requirements.

Responding to the incident, Vengara police claimed the visit was routine..
