Police are asking for the public’s help to find the owner of a dog that was found inside a Dauphin County dumpster last month. Derry Township police were dispatched at 4:40 p.m.

on Feb. 13 to the area of the Briarcrest Garden Apartments at 999 Briarcrest Drive after a person found a dog in a dumpster. Police said a small gray, white, and brown colored male Chihuahua wearing a blue and purple sweater was inside a green Waste Management dumpster between the Brandenburg and Williamsburg apartment buildings.

The Chihuahua was identified as an older dog and was not wearing an identification tag, according to police. “The dog appeared to be in good health, aside from being cold, and was removed from the dumpster by the good Samaritan,” police said in a press release. Police said it’s unclear how long the dog was inside the dumpster.

But they believe the dog did not enter the dumpster on its own due to its small size. “All persons with information are encouraged to come forward and help us determine how the dog ended up in the dumpster,” police said. If you have any information or recognize the dog from its description or photo, contact police at (717) 534-2202 or submit an anonymous tip through Crimewatch .
