Police say they are working to prevent street drinking in a town centre. South Holland Police reported possible drug exchanges along with breaches of the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) while patrolling in the Spalding town centre yesterday (Tuesday, April 1). The PSPO is designed to prohibit anti-social behaviour such as spitting, urinating and littering.

The order is not a drinking ban but it does set out that an offence is committed if a drinker does not comply with an officer’s request to stop. South Holland District Council is responsible for the PSPO and has the powers to fine people for breaches. A South Holland Police Facebook post stated that three officers were patrolling Spalding market.

It goes onto say: “This resulted in information being passed about possible drug exchanges and a male was identified and stop searched. “Breaches of the public space protection order did occur and the details of the suspects have been passed to South Holland District Council. “We are working together to prevent street drinking within the PSPO area of Spalding.

” Anyone who sees the PSPO being breached is report it by calling 101 or using the force’s website..
