Pune: Police on Monday served notices to over 250 mandals in the city refraining them from making chariots over 16ft high for the Ganapati immersion ceremony. Deputy commissioner of police (Zone I) Sandeep Singh Gill said the aim was to avert trouble during the processions, especially on JM Road where the height of the newly constructed Metro foot-over bridge in front of Sambhaji Garden is 16ft. "The immersion processions of these mandals will pass through JM Road from the old part of the city," he said.

Ten Ganapati mandals have made their chariots with the help of hydraulic systems to avert any trouble during the immersion procession. On Sunday night, police seized three sound pressure mode equipment of Ganapati mandals. Many mandals use sound pressure mode equipment that enhances the acoustic output, and the result is not ambient for human beings.

"Our teams will inspect all the chariots and tableaux of Ganapati mandals. If we find the equipment, we will seize the entire sound system," Gill said..
