Police probe baby's death at JB childcare centre

JOHOR BARU: A five-month-old baby boy died at a childcare centre in Kangkar Pulai, here, yesterday.Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan said they received a report from the baby's mother, a 31-year-old woman, at 4.

24pm yesterday.He said a post-mortem examination was conducted on the victim, which found no external injuries on the body."We received a report yesterday from the victim's mother, who informed us that her son was unresponsive when his caretaker, a 34-year-old local woman, tried to awaken him from sleep.



"The victim was taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital here and pronounced dead by the hospital."The cause of death is still under investigation," he said in a statement today.No arrests have been made so far.

He added that the case has been classified as a sudden death report, with investigations also being conducted under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for abuse, neglect, abandonment, or exposure of a child in a manner likely to cause physical or emotional injury.© New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd.
