Police: New Columbia man struck officers in Thursday morning incident

MILTON — A 31-year-old New Columbia man faces three felony counts of aggravated assault after Milton police say he threatened to kill a borough officer early Thursday morning before punching him. Dan Zettelmoyer — arrived, they saw a truck parked in the middle of the street with multiple doors open and loud music playing. As officers approached, they saw a man in the alley, who police later determined was the victim of an assault. Chief Curt Zettlemoyer wrote in his criminal complaint that Cpl.

Dan Zettelmoyer saw a second man run toward a home on 2nd Street and attempt to kick in the front door. Dan Zettelmoyer told the man to move to the side and put his hands on the wall, but the man, later identified as Zimmerman, said he was immortal and could not die, police said. Zimmerman then threatened to kill the corporal, according to court documents.

Officers from Watsontown arrived to assist and drew an electronic weapon on Zimmerman while the police chief was attempting to place Zimmerman in handcuffs, police said. Zimmerman turned around and punched the chief in the head, causing the chief to lose his balance and to become disoriented, police said. A Watsontown officer then deployed the electronic weapon, striking Zimmerman in the back while Dan Zettelmoyer again attempted to place the man in handcuffs, police said.

Zimmerman continued to struggle with officers and eventually the corporal used pepper spray on him. The struggle continued with Zimmerman attempting to bite Dan Zettelmoyer while throwing punches at the officers, court papers state. Police said they were able to take Zimmerman to the ground with the help of another electronic weapon deployed by an officer from the Buffalo Valley Regional Police Department, Lewisburg.

Police said they discovered a knife, and a Sig Sauer 9mm firearm with a round in the chamber. The gun's hammer was in a locked position, capable of being fired, according to court documents. The other man told police he was inside the home when Zimmerman arrived with a golf club in his hands and cuased a disturbance trying to enter the property, according to arrest papers.
