Police led on chase on M55 and M6 after spotting vehicle driving at 135mph

A teenager has been arrested after police were led on a chase through Nelson and on the M55 and M6.

A teenager has been arrested after police were led on a chase through Nelson and on the M55 and M6. Officers also arrested a Fleetwood driver on suspicion of drink driving and another man in Morecambe for disqualified driving and failing to provide a sample of breath. On the M55, a police officer spotted a vehicle driving at 135mph on the M55.

Police chased the car and the pursuit continued onto the M6 and M65 and then into the streets of Nelson, when the vehicle stopped and two people jumped out, attempting to run off. They were detained by one an officers shortly after. Residents reported seeing a police helicopter involved in the pursuit.



A 17-year-old man was arrested and his car seized. He has been charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving with excess alcohol and driving without insurance, and bailed to appear at Blackburn Magistrates Court on June 11. At around 10pm on Thursday night (April 24) last night, an off-duty officer spotted a BMW 4 series driving erratically.

On duty officers responded, and the vehicle and driver were located. A 27-year-old, from Fleetwood, was arrested on suspicion of drink and drug driving. He has since been released under investigation.

​Also this week, a vehicle passed a dog patrol cars in Morecambe. The vehicle was stopped and the 36-year-old male driver arrested for disqualified driving and failing to provide a sample of breath. He was later charged and remanded to court, and his car was seized.
