Ludhiana: Five persons have been booked for beating up a man badly and taking him away over past enmity. The accused have been identified by Ludhiana rural police as Ghuda and Baljinder Singh, both from Dakha, and three unnamed others. The complainant, Bawanpreet Singh , belongs to Jangpur village.

Bawanpreet told police that he was attacked around 6.30pm Saturday when he was heading home on his motorcycle. He was near his village when Ghuda and Baljinder, armed with sharp-edged weapons and a baseball bat, stopped him and forced him to get off his bike.

They started thrashing him before forcing him to sit on their bike. Though he resisted, they beat him up again and took him away, he alleged. Bawanpreet told the cops that the accused took him to a secluded area where Baljinder hit him in the leg with an iron rod, causing serious injuries to his ankle and foot.

Later, three more unidentified persons, carrying sticks and baseball bats, appeared on the spot, and one of them hit him on the head with a baseball bat. The complainant alleged that the accused persons threatened to kill him and ran away from the spot afterward. Following this, he informed police.

A team from Dakha police station reached the spot and started a probe right away. Investigating officer Harjit Singh said the accused had beaten up the complainant after a fight during Hola Mohalla in Sri Anandpur Sahib as well. They will soon be arrested.
