1 2 3 Surat: The gruesome murder of Sachin Chauhan in Bharuch continues to unravel as police recovered his fifth body part—his chest and stomach—on Tuesday from a drain near Bholav GIDC. This marks the fourth consecutive day of body part discoveries, with Sachin's legs still missing. Bharuch C Division police have booked Shailendra Singh Chauhan , a close friend of Sachin, for murder following a complaint by the victim's brother, Mohit Chauhan.
The body was identified based on Sachin's tattoo and a tooth cap with Mohit's assistance. According to the FIR, Sachin, a science graduate, had worked in various companies in Bharuch over the past 10 years. He was last employed in the production department of Fermanta Company in Dahej.
In 2020, he married Parul, and the couple has a four-year-old son. Shailendra Singh Chauhan, also a resident of Bharuch for the past decade, was a native of Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh, like Sachin. Sachin had his name tattooed on his right hand and had a tooth cap fitted after dental treatment.
He travelled to Uttar Pradesh on March 1 for a wedding in his wife's family and returned to Bharuch on March 6. On March 25, Parul called Mohit, informing him that Sachin's phone was switched off. He was supposed to send her a return ticket for Bharuch for her scheduled journey on March 27.
That same day, Sachin sent a message to his wife stating that he was travelling to Bengaluru with Smit Patil and had parked his moped at ABC Chowkdi in Bharuch. On March 26, Mohit received a message from Sachin, claiming that he had killed a man while drinking because the man had used obscene language about Parul. Sachin continued chatting with Mohit for two days but never answered calls.
Suspecting something was amiss, Mohit left for Bharuch on March 27, accompanied by Sachin's brother-in-law, Ritik Rajput. At around 10:30pm that night, Mohit received another message from Sachin, stating that he was involved with another woman and wanted to divorce Parul. Upon arriving in Bharuch on the morning of March 28, Mohit contacted Sachin's friend Shailendra Singh, who gave vague responses and suggested meeting at night.
In the meantime, Mohit lodged a missing person complaint at the Bharuch A Division police station. Since he suspected Shailendra's involvement, police advised Mohit to bring him in along with photos of Sachin. However, on March 29, Shailendra called Mohit, claiming that his uncle had passed away in Uttar Pradesh and that he had left to attend the funeral.
As body parts of Sachin were discovered over the next three days, police cross-checked the missing persons list and contacted Mohit for identification. He confirmed the remains as Sachin's, identifying him based on his tattoo and tooth cap. Bharuch deputy superintendent of police CK Patel told TOI: "During the investigation, Shailendra Singh emerged as the prime suspect.
Multiple teams have been deployed to locate and arrest him. We have also uncovered financial disputes between Shailendra and Sachin. However, the exact motive will only be determined once Shailendra is apprehended.
" Bharuch C Division police inspector VR Bharwad added: "Sachin was last seen at his home in Bharuch on March 24 before leaving on his moped. We are analysing technical evidence and call detail records to determine who he had been in contact with over the past few days. We hope to solve the case soon.
" BOX: Accused Used Sachin's Phone? Since Sachin did not answer calls from his wife and brother but continued communicating through messages, it is suspected that someone else was using his phone. "Messages containing various theories, such as ‘he murdered someone' and ‘he wanted to divorce his wife,' suggest that the accused may have tried to mislead his family using his phone. We will be able to determine who used Sachin's phone after his murder once Shailendra is apprehended," said sources.
