Pune: A green corridor was created on Thursday evening from the airport to Poona Hospital to transport a city-based resident who met with a serious accident while holidaying in Port Blair on March 26. Sinhagad Road resident Shobhana Lohapatre went on a holiday to Port Blair along with her husband and son. She met with a serious accident in Nicobar Island after the two-wheeler she was driving was hit by a speeding vehicle.

Since there was no proper medical facility available in the island, she was brought to Port Blair in an Air Force helicopter for treatment late at night with help from Pune MP and minister of state for civil aviation Murlidhar Mohol . She suffered a major head injury and internal bleeding and was provided basic treatment at the hospital in Port Blair, a statement issued by the minister said. An air ambulance carrying Lohapatre landed at the Pune airport at 10 pm on Thursday, after which she was taken to the hospital via the green corridor.

In another incident earlier this month, a couple who met with an accident while holidaying in Phuket, Thailand, was brought to the city on an IndiGo flight with Mohol's help.
