Pune: A police constable posted with the Pimpri Chinchwad police headquarters suffered injuries after a car hit the barricades of a Static Surveillance Team and dragged him for 20 feet at Bhakti Shakti Chowk on old Pune-Mumbai highway around 12.25am on Friday and fled towards Pune. Police said the team was executing an operation at the spot.
Sub-inspector Mahadev Yelmar of the Nigdi police said, "Constable Santosh Shinde was standing behind the barricades during the naka bandi operation against the backdrop of the forthcoming assembly elections. A hatchback car heading towards Pune from Transportnagar hit the barricades, and one of them got stuck on the car's bonnet. As Shinde grabbed the barricade, the car dragged him and the barricade for almost 20 feet till Shinde fell on the road surface.
" Yelmar said, "The other members of the Static Surveillance Team (SST) ran behind the car to save Shinde. They moved him to a nearby hospital. After preliminary treatment, he was discharged.
" The car sped away towards Pune after Shinde fell on the road. The police have obtained the registration number of the vehicle and are trying to locate it. "There is no CCTV camera at the spot.
A camera few metres away from the spot recorded the car's movement," Yelmar said..
