It feels like the nineties again - while never went away, it's been brought back into focus with the Pokemon TCG Pocket mobile game that has us cracking digital packs this time around. The app is certainly proving popular, ranking second in free games on the iOS App Store at the time of writing, but that sudden influx of players has many wondering what's next. Thankfully, the official Pokemon TCG Pocket account has posted on X (formerly Twitter) to confirm some great new features coming in just a few short months.

Here's what's coming next for the popular mobile title. In the new statement, the team working on the game have thanked players for their time spent collecting and battling cards already, before confirming what's coming in a "future major update". "To begin with, we plan to add newer booster packs by the end of the year," it explains.

At present, there are Pikachu, Charizard and Mewtwo boosters for the Genetic Apex set, but players have already begun filling up their collections. "In addition, we are aiming to add a feature that allows certain cards to be traded starting in January, 2025. We are planning to gradually expand the selection of cards that are able to be traded," it reads.

At present, the app's trading option says it's 'coming soon', and some fans had theorised it could take as long as a couple of years to implement - similar to Pokemon Go's trading options. The statement also promises additional new features that are in development, with many players hoping it'll focus on balancing the battling side of the game..
