RUGBY UNION FORMER PNG Pukpuks 7s player and highly successful Kimbe Rebels coach Freddy Matthies has expressed his disappointment in PNG Rugby Union president Paul Siwi blaming CRU president Kori Chan for the suspension of the PNG Rugby Union by Oceania Rugby and the PNG Olympic Committee. Matthies said: “The suspension is a result of the President and his board’s failures which is highlighted in the Oceania suspension letter. “The letter from Oceania Rugby does not mention anything about Kori Chan or Capital Rugby Union (CRU).

“The suspension of PNG Rugby Union by PNGOC is also a reflection of the PNG Rugby Union’s administration’s inability to manage PNG Rugby,” added Matthies. He went onto to highlight the glaring fact that the CRU is the best run Rugby competition and association in the country in which all unions should look upon to mirror. “This is a result of Kori’s (Chan) passion and commitment to the game which we all rugby followers share.

“The beautiful game of Rugby Union is bigger than everyone, those previously and currently involved share a common passion for the game. “It’s a family sport which unites all players, clubs, provinces and the country,” he said. “I strongly urge PNGRU president Paul Siwi to face the suspension and offer solutions without pointing fingers or do the honourable thing and step aside for the better of our game.

“The game is bigger than all of us.”.
