
TENNIS: PNG will be represented by 13 players at the upcoming Pacific Oceania Junior Tennis Championships in Nadi, Fiji. The Championships is from April 2-12. The 12 and Under team events will be hosted at the Nadi Sports Club, and the 14s and 16s events to be hosted at the Lautoka Tennis Centre.
PNG Tennis Association President Barbara Stubbings said previously only nine attended the POJC, but this has increased this year. Stubbings said this is one of the largest teams to ever attend the POJC representing PNG and the West Pacific Regional Team. “We are hoping to see some strong performances from those who have previously attended and for the debutants to compete and make the most of this opportunity.
” Those making their debuts are Jemimah Bakani, Irene Jose, Arthurnasius Wash, Alani Smith, Macklyn Meninga and Imelda Ragu. The team will be coached by Eddie Mera and Omega Ivuyo.” Stubbings extended her gratitude to those that have in one way or another supported the team, while acknowledging Kumul Petroleum Holdings Ltd as the major sponsor and Air Niugini for kindly donated an airline package for the team to raffle to assist with expenses.
