Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner is facing the Commons Despatch box today, going head to head with shadow Northern Ireland Secretary Alex Burghart. The pair will step in for Sir Keir Starmer and Kemi Badneoch respectively as the Prime Minister attends the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. The tractor tax, a sharp rise in inflation and winter fuel payments are all expected to be ammo for the Tories as they grill the Government.
Mrs Badneoch has not given a top Tory the role of being her official deputy meaning MPs will alternate whenever someone is needed to step in on behalf of the party leader. The last time Sir Keir was absent on a Wednesday, Sir Oliver Dowden asked questions for the Conservatives because it was before Mrs Badenoch replaced Rishi Sunak as Conservative leader.
