LAHORE - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has desired strong ties with the Muslim states in order to secure broader stability especially in the field of economy and religious harmony.

He expressed these views while exchanging Eid greetings with heads of state of a number of Muslim states in his telephonic talks here on Sunday. The Muslims in Middle East, Europe, USA and Canada celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday while Pakistan going to celebrate Eid today after the Shawwal moon was sighted in the country yesterday. Earlier, Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Syed Abdul Khabir Azad announced that the crescent of Shawwal-ul-Mukarram has been sighted in various parts of the country, marking the end of Ramadan and the arrival of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that Pakistan currently faces threats from both internal and external enemies. He stressed need to avoid all forms of extremism, hatred, and sectarianism.

To ensure the nation’s integrity and stability, he called for unity and vigilance to prevent any conspiracy from succeeding. Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz made separate telephonic calls to President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah for Eid greetings. Building upon the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Baku, they agreed on enhancing economic cooperation. It was confirmed that Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy would visit Islamabad in the first week of April to hold discussions with Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister and also meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The visit aims to finalise key investment agreements, paving the way for President Ilham Aliyev’s anticipated visit to Pakistan later in April.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasised that President Aliyev’s upcoming visit would mark a significant milestone in Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations. Both sides are expected to sign investment agreements worth US$2 billion, signifying a new era of strategic partnership and economic collaboration between the two countries. The strengthening of ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan is expected to bring mutual economic benefits and further consolidate diplomatic relations between the two brotherly nations.

Meanwhile, the PM also held a telephonic conversation with the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev Sunday evening on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. He congratulated the Uzbek President as well as the people of Uzbekistan on Eid and prayed for peace and prosperity of the people of both countries. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reciprocated the warm sentiments for the prime minister and the people of Pakistan.

He also extended his warm Eid felicitations to President Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. The two leaders expressed their satisfaction at the positive momentum of bilateral ties, following the Prime Minister’s successful visit to Uzbekistan in February. They reaffirmed their commitment to remain closely engaged for ensuring regular follow up on the important decisions taken during the visit to further strengthen Pakistan-Uzbekistan cooperation across multiple spheres.

A “Road Map” of mutually identified targets has been devised by the two sides to track progress in bilateral cooperation for each area. The Prime Minister said that the upcoming visit of Chairman Senate to Uzbekistan would also prove useful in strengthening of our bilateral ties. Shehbaz Shari also reiterated his most cordial invitation to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to undertake an official visit to Pakistan soon.

Later, Prime Minister Shehbaz called the King Jordan Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein to extend his best wishes and warm greetings to him and the brotherly people of Jordan on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. The two leaders discussed the ongoing situation in Gaza. King Abdullah praised Pakistan’s support for Palestine and lauded its gesture of sending humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people.

The Prime Minister expressed his deep appreciation for Jordan’s efforts, led by King Abdullah himself, for bringing peace in Gaza, ending the violence and ensuring delivery of urgently needed humanitarian assistance to the innocent Palestinians. The Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s strong and enduring bilateral relations with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, across many spheres including defence cooperation. He reiterated Pakistan’s desire to further enhance bilateral ties for the mutual benefit of the people of both countries.

The Prime Minister extended a most cordial invitation to King Abdullah to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience. King Abdullah reciprocated and extended an invitation to the Prime Minister to visit Jordan. In his phone talk with Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait, PM Shehbaz extended warm greetings and best wishes to him as well as Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait, and the brotherly people of Kuwait.

Recalling the historical brotherly ties between the two countries, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen its cordial relations with Kuwait for mutually rewarding cooperation. He fondly recalled his warm and productive meeting with the Crown Prince in New York last year on sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s annual session. The Prime Minister emphasized the need upon to further enhance bilateral economic, investment and trade cooperation between the two countries through close collaboration and exploring joint initiatives.

In this spirit, he extended a most cordial invitation to the Crown Prince to undertaken an official visit to Pakistan, at his earliest convenience. The invitation was most graciously accepted by the Crown Prince, who also said that his visit would be preceded by the visit of the Prime Minister of Kuwait to Pakistan. His Highness Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah warmly reciprocated Prime Minister’s Eid greetings and conveyed best wishes for the people of Pakistan.
