“We need to work towards creating five-six more cooperatives like Amul, which have a presence across the country,” he said. 7% in FY24 from 83.9% in FY12. The PM highlighted the importance of drafting economic policies that take into account every section of society to strengthen the rural economy.
Emphasising the need to diversify rural incomes, he noted the importance of making irrigation affordable, promoting micro-irrigation, creating more rural enterprises, and maximising the benefits of natural farming for the rural economy, urging time-bound efforts in this direction. The government had implemented a programme in each village to ensure basic amenities, he said. Toilets have been built as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission , and millions of people in rural India have been given pucca houses as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Safe and clean drinking water was being provided through the Jal Jeevan Mission . “Today, healthcare facilities are being provided in more than 1.5 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to the people,” he said.
Telemedicine, assisted by digital technology, has ensured access to the best doctors and hospitals in the villages. Millions of people in rural areas have benefited from telemedicine through e-Sanjeevini, he added. Modi accused the opposition of causing divisions in the name of caste and asked Indians to foil such attempts by strengthening the shared culture and heritage of the country’s villages.
“We have to thwart these conspiracies and preserve and strengthen the common heritage of our villages.” CREDIT DRIVE At the event, Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that 0sthe government is working primarily for the uplift of the poor, youth, farmers, and women through various central schemes financed by the public sector banks (PSBs). “PSBs are already operating credit saturation drives in priority sectors for schemes such as PM MUDRA Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, and SVAnidhi Yojana,” she said, noting that the Grameen Bharat Mahotsav showcases India's rich cultural heritage as well as the aspirations of rural people and development in four areas — geographical indication (GI) tags, natural farming, women’s empowerment and tribal welfare, with a focus on products from the Northeast.
