Bayern Munich dispatched Werder Bremen by a final score of 3-0 courtesy of two Harry Kane penalties and a Leroy Sané tap-in. This game was not that comfortable for the Bavarians — it lingered scoreless past the half and was still only 1-0 into the final ten minutes of regular time. But Bayern more than took care of business in the end, with the visitors requiring several phenomenal saves from keeper Michael Zetterer to stem the bleeding, and the Bavarians not conceding a single shot on target (and only two shots overall) in a controlled performance.
Quick-hitters from the match: Sacha Boey does not look like a comfortable fit in Vincent Kompany’s system. Konrad Laimer’s late substitution instantly injected some life into the Bayern attack, with the former Leipzig midfielder’s underlapping impetus playing a big part in Bayern’s crucial second goal. Jamal Musiala gave defenders fits.
Even when he was not at his sharpest, it is clear that he is the central figure in this Bayern team. More than anyone else can, Musiala unlocks defenses from the No. 10 position — either by dragging defenders across the field with him, or looking to play that lethal pass into space.
Sometimes, those penetrating runs were lacking, however. Shout out for the individual interventions. Aleksandar Pavlović had a nice crunching tackle before the half to cut out a Bremen half-chance.
Joshua Kimmich cleaned up from a lost ball in midfield by...
sticking out an arm and earning a foul he probably did not deserve. The rest of the defense was solid and Bremen never mounted a serious phase of threat. Kingsley Coman sure can hit ‘em skyward, can’t he? Leroy Sané has to be feeling real good about that goal.
Simple stuff but no mistake on the scoring touch and his movement and confidence were a joy to watch. Harry Kane makes penalties look so, so easy. Harry Kane to opposing GKs after the swish of the net following a penalty goal — Bavarian Football Works (@bavarianfbworks.
