Player ratings: Bayern Munich 9-2 Dinamo Zagreb

Champions League season, and Bayern Munich steps up to the plate. What else is new? The Bavarians three-upped their weekend performance, a 6-1 Bundesliga win over Holstein Kiel, to smash a Dinamo Zagreb team that to their credit did come to put up a fight. Maybe they shouldn’t have, though, as the two Zagreb goals in the second half, which momentarily cut the Bayern lead to 3-2, seemed to ignite a fire and fury in the home side.

..who did not rest until the final whistle.

The final score was 9-2. Quick hitters from a thoroughly enjoyable match: Dinamo goalkeeper Ivan Nevistić had a game full of amazing saves. You wouldn’t know it from the scoreline, nor expect it from a game where Bayern nearly got to double digits.

But the Bavarians did also have 19 shots on goal. How many offside goals can you score in a game? Bayern: Yes. (The final count was three? Four?) The Hansi Flick comparisons will continue for Bayern coach Vincent Kompany — in the best of ways.

This was pure end-to-end chaos. Get the feeling many Bayern fans will take the concessions if that’s the price to pay for this amount of firepower. Good guy Leon Goretzka, ensuring 8-2 is a scoreline that remains enshrined in association with FC Barcelona .

.. Great to see both Goretzka and Leroy Sané scoring on their returns, and what goals they were.

Speaking of trademark Müller assists...

Jamal Musiala’s first-time chest down to Michael Olise surely qualifies. Brilliant, full-match, 100% effort from Musiala. Player ratings [ @BILD ] pic.
