Plans for a new traveller caravan site have prompted fury from nearby residents. The proposal for three pitches on land next to 84 Brooks Lane, Bognor Regis, has already received dozens of objections. The applicant, who is seeking 'permission in principle', argues that the scheme will help fulfil an unmet need for gypsy and traveller pitches in the Arun district.

Each pitch would include a stationary mobile home, a touring caravan, and space for two cars, according to the proposal. The site in question is a strip of land located between two houses on Brooks Lane. The caravans would be sited on this plot of land (Image: Google) In the application, the developer said the proposal aims for "good quality design" that will "absorb the development in the landscape and respect local vernacular.

" The application also claimed the site layout was designed to meet "amenity and space standards for the occupants" and that the scheme would not have an "unacceptable visual impact" and would "integrate with the surroundings". However, residents have voiced strong opposition, citing concerns about noise, sewage, and the potential impact on housing prices.

All the noises from the proposed site would be horrendous, and we would not be able to enjoy sitting in our garden due to the noise. "Furthermore, the owner has been confrontational to local residents and to ourselves over the past few years.

"This is the last thing the town needs. Totally unsuitable. The owner has no regard for the area other than to line his own pockets.

Object object object," voiced another concerned local. Another objected: "This application is terrible news. If travellers are allowed to live there, will there be sanitation facilities or will the river Rife be used to take their waste? "This will be a disastrous decision if the application is successful.
