After the incredible success of Netflix's Adolescence , Deadline has shared that Plan B co-presidents Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner are speaking to director Philip Barantini about the "next iteration" of the series, which reunited Barantini and Stephen Graham. Adolescence tells the story of how a family’s world is turned upside down when 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) is arrested for the murder of a teenage girl who goes to his school. Graham not only stars as Jamie’s father but also created and wrote the show alongside Jack Thorne.
This was Owen Cooper's first role, and he blew audiences away with his performance. The rest of the cast includes Ashley Walters and Erin Doherty. A post shared by @matriarchproductionsuk Gardner explained that they are figuring out how to "widen the aperture, stay true to its DNA [and] not be repetitive.
" Kleiner continued to express that they hope Graham and Thorne return. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos even took to Instagram when the series premiered, writing , "In the sea of great series and films on Netflix, every once and awhile one comes along that pushes into brand new territories, defies the limits of creativity and features career defining performances. For me, Adolescence is that show.
Director Philip Barantini takes the viewers on a four part journey into a tragic family story that is intimate and powerful. Stephen Graham gives a career topping performance and newcomer Owen Cooper makes an undeniable acting debut that tells the world that he has arrived. Barantini’s one-shot technique in each episode is not a stunt, it is the way he immerses the viewer in the story as if we were on the set.
" The show, which shot all four episodes in one take, is currently in fourth place on Netflix’s Most Popular English-Language TV list with 114.5M views since it was first released. "Phil’s style of doing the episodes in one take is not a gimmick.
It’s very much in conversation with the subject matter," Gardner shared . "In early conversations with Stephen and Jack, they were talking about how it’s too easy to look away. You can look away from the school, you can look away from the police station, you can look away from the counseling, you can look away from the family.
In that kind of prismatic way of viewing, you can duck the issue. So our theory was, what would happen if you couldn’t look away? And will that make the subject embed in you in a different way? That was a thrilling thing." Adolescence is streaming on Netflix .
