SARATOGA SPRINGS — Pitney Meadows Community Farm is encouraging people to “Buy a Box, Give a Box” with its Thanksgiving Harvest Box Program. Each purchase of a Thanksgiving Harvest Box includes a matching donation of a box to a local family. The boxes feature squash, sweet potatoes, potatoes, garlic, onions, carrots and kale, along with optional add-ons from local businesses including Night Work Bread sourdough dinner rolls, Borden’s Orchard cooking apples, Berle Farm hard cheeses and apple pie from Bakery Suzanne.

“Thanksgiving is a time for gathering, sharing, and reflecting on what connects us,” said Pitney Meadows Executive Director Brooke McConnell in a statement. “By participating in this program, you’re not only filling your own table with fresh, local produce but helping a neighbor do the same. Together, we’re building a community where everyone can celebrate with dignity and abundance.

” Founded in 2016, Pitney Meadows aims to empower traditionally marginalized communities to participate in the local food system, through fresh, local produce donations, culinary education, gardening support, scholarships, and partnerships with local health and social service organizations. As part of the Thanksgiving Harvest Box program, organizers are calling on volunteers to help pack the boxes on Saturday, Nov. 16.

From 10 a.m. to noon, community members can help put together the boxes that will be shared with local families during the holiday season.

“This program brings people together on so many levels,” McConnell said in a statement. “Whether you’re buying a box, helping pack, or receiving a box, it’s a shared experience that reinforces the strength and unity of our community.” The boxes are $55 and can be picked up at Pitney Meadows between 3 and 6 p.

m. on Friday, Nov. 22.
