Pioneering NHS figure with 'good sense of humour' retires from UHCW in Coventry

Dr Anthony Kenton spent more than 20 years at University Hospital Coventry

A pioneering NHS figure who played a key role in driving major advancements in his field has retired. After more than 20 years at University Hospital Coventry , Dr Anthony Kenton will be enjoying time with his family and beloved dog. Dr Kenton graduated from the University of Leicester in 1990 and completed his training in the East and West Midlands.

He joined the UHCW NHS Trust as a Consultant Neurologist in 2003. His 'passion and dedication' saw him successfully establish a Specialist Stroke Unit at University Hospital Coventry . Dr Kenton was also the Clinical Lead for Stroke at UHCW and the Clinical Director of the West Midlands Cardiovascular Network.

One described him as 'kind and dedicated.' In a joint statement shared on Instagram , they said: “He has a good sense of humour and has been a reliable co-worker and an excellent, well-respected mentor to all his colleagues.

Dr Kenton will be greatly missed by all and will be a great loss to the NHS . We wish him well in the next chapter of his life.” Dr Kenton will be enjoying time with his family and watching his beloved Leicester City FC .

He also thoroughly enjoys travelling and gardening. Speaking about his 21 years at University Hospital Coventry , Dr Kenton said: “I truly am, and will continue to be, very sad on leaving UHCW , which has been my second home and provided me with a second family for over 20 years. It has been a pleasure to work with such wonderful people.
