A former social club on Llandudno's West Shore has been demolished to make way for apartments.

A FORMER social club on Llandudno's West Shore was demolished today (April 8), as the site makes way for new apartments. Workers could be seen at the old building, on Bryniau Road, today as the building was knocked down. In its place, 12 residential units (across three floors) will be built, after planning permission .

Described as a “dilapidated” building with asbestos on site, the social club has lay empty for several years, with efforts for housing to replace the site dating back to 1998. Demolition work will make room for “modern and innovative” one and two bedroom apartments, in an effort to “provide a sustainable solution to the need for modern apartment living in Llandudno.” Behind the development is William Ward, a director of Cynwyd Enterprises – the company operates the Cae Mor Hotel in Llandudno.

Plans will see an increase in biodiversity in the region with the creation of a public space, and easier and greater access and parking for disabled people, pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles and emergency vehicles. Regarding the demolition of the existing site, the proposal stated: “The existing buildings on site have fallen into a state of disrepair and falls significantly short of modern standards. “The chosen design approach therefore proposes a new build as this presents the best opportunity to deliver an exemplar scheme that makes efficient use of land whilst retaining the generous landscaping and providing much-needed dwellings.

” The application was also supported by Llandudno Town Council, following a public consultation..
