The Northern and West Perry field hockey teams have qualified for their first PIAA championship games in program history. With a 4-0 Class 2A semifinal win over Kennett and a 3-1 Class A semifinal victory against Newport Tuesday, the Polar Bears and Mustangs will hold residency at Cumberland Valley’s Chapman Field Saturday. West Perry (23-0) draws Boiling Springs, a 1-0 semifinal winner over Wyoming Area, at 11 a.
m. while Northern (22-3) duels Warwick, a 1-0 winner against Palmyra, at 1 p.m.
Division I commits Olivia Anderson and Jordan Byers guided their respective assemblies Tuesday. Anderson, a North Carolina pledge, pocketed a pair of goals for the Polar Bears. Meanwhile, Byers, a future Iowa product, matched the output for the Mustangs.
Sara Gunning and Keairah Dykes completed Northern’s scoring quartet. On the West Perry side, Laurel Fite sandwiched a second-quarter score between Byers’ duo. Addison Geer snapped Newport’s shutout against West Perry with a goal in the 57th minute.
