PFL founder Donn Davis believes in his promotion, much like Dana White has pushed the UFC over the years. Now, as the PFL prepares for one of its biggest events to date, they are taking aim at the top spot. In a recent interview with the New York Post , Davis talked up the October 19 card.

The event, which takes place on ESPN+ pay-per-view, boasts Francis Ngannou vs. Renan Ferreira and Cris Cyborg vs. Larrisa Pacheco.

“I think you have the most interesting men’s fight, and the most interesting women’s fight (of the year),” Davis said (thanks to MMA Fighting for the quotes). “I believe this is the biggest event possible in MMA because of the co-mains. That makes it certainly the biggest thing for PFL .

“The UFC is the bigger company, but we’re putting on the bigger event. This is a big deal for us.” Davis added that the promotion has two main objectives for the event.

“Our No. 1 metric is putting on the highest quality MMA fight for fans in the world,” he said. “We want to show fans that we can put on just as good, or better, of a product than anyone else in the world.

“Metric No. 2, we want to do OK financially.” He discussed how the upcoming card will cost more than the recent UFC event held at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
