Khattak is the adviser on interior affairs, but he has no link with the matters concerned with the interior ministry, a key government functionary of Shehbaz Sharif administration said while quoting Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Khattak is a veteran politician and is known for having links with the powers-that-be.

He remained the chief minister of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rule. He had quit the PTI following May 9 riots and formed his breakaway faction called the PTI-Parliamentarians. But Khattak along with his family members faced defeat in the February 8 election with a huge margin mostly by PTI-backed candidates.

While Khattak got no major role in the interior ministry, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart Senator Tallal Chaudhry has been given some major tasks in his new role as the minister of state for interior. Severe heatwave expected across Punjab from today The official sources said that Chaudhry enjoyed the confidence of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on his appointment, and both had a very good working relationship. Chaudhry was given the portfolio of the minister of state for interior by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the advice of PML-N supremo and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, but the appointment was made after the consent of Naqvi.

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz and Naqvi were in the know well before this appointment, the sources privy to the development said. Due to this reason, Naqvi invites Senator Chaudhry in every high-level meeting of the interior ministry, be it a meeting on law and order, curbing human smuggling or the Board of Governors of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta). Chaudhry also has been assigned the task of dealing with parliamentary work concerned with the interior ministry.

He is responsible for answering call attention notices and questions related to the ministry in both the houses of parliament. On the other hand, Khattak has never been seen in any official meeting of the interior ministry since his appointment to the position of adviser with the status of federal minister. ” He avoided answering further queries. A senior official of the interior ministry, wishing anonymity, confirmed that Khattak had been given no responsibility up till now. Punjab to present Thalassemia Prevention Act 2025 in assembly Tags: pervez khattak sidelined.
