Person shot and killed in Polk County; suspect in custody

DALLAS, Oregon — A person was killed after a shooting Saturday morning in Dallas, in Polk County, about 15 miles west of Salem. Dallas police took a suspect into custody. Police officers responded around 9:30 a.

m. to a report of shots fired on Southeast Monmouth Cutoff. The police officers provided the person with medical aid, Dallas police said, but they died at the scene.



Police officers identified a suspect and took them into custody. Dallas police said the suspect and the victim are believed to have known each other, but did not provide any further information. "There is no reason to believe anyone else was involved, and there is no ongoing risk to the public related to this event," Dallas police said in a news release.
