Person rescued from van stuck in flood water

A water rescue unit was sent to help after a van got stuck in Shropshire's flood waters.

The Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that this morning it was called to help after a van became stuck in Melverley – one of the areas always hit worst by Shropshire's flooding.

An update from the fire service said crews had been called to Chapel Lane in the village shortly after 11am. It said that three fire engines and a water rescue unit were scrambled to the scene from Baschurch and Shrewsbury. The service said that one person had been rescued from the vehicle by boat crews, while fire officers currently remain at the scene.
