Lebron Jhames Daep has yet to decide on what's next for him after wrapping up an illustrious high school career with University of Perpetual Help System DALTA in the NCAA. The 6-foot-7 steered the Junior ALTAs to their first-ever championship, beating Benilde-La Salle Green Hills with a dominant 101-67 Game 3 triumph to rule the NCAA Season 100 juniors basketball tournament on Tuesday. Daep was also named both Season MVP and Finals MVP to cap off his high school career.
But the 18-year-old big man said he has yet to plot his next career move, saying he just wanted to cherish the championship first before thinking of what's next. "Actually hindi ko pa naiisip pero gusto ko lang magpahinga ngayon lalo na nakuha na namin ‘yung goal namin which is mag-champion as a team," Daep said. "Gusto ko lang muna magpahinga, pagbalik ko dito tsaka ako gagawa ng parang plano ko.
" [Actually, I haven't thought about it but I just want to rest first especially since we were able to reach our goal which is to become champion as a team...
I just want to rest, when I get back here the I'll make my plans.] Daep had a memorable three-year run with the Junior ALTAs. In his rookie season in Season 98, the second-generation baller posted 8.
78 points, 5.78 rebounds, and 1.11 blocks as the Junior ALTAs finished at sixth spot with a 4-5 record.
Daep made a huge leap the following year, posting averages of 13.46 markers, 6.38 boards, 1.
15 blocks, 2.0 assists, and 1.54 steals to help the likes of Season 99 MVP Amiel Acido, JD Pagulayan, and Mark Gojo Cruz in their first-ever finals appearance.
They, however, fell short against Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the championship round. But Daep and the Junior ALTAs wouldn't be denied this time around, ruling Season 100 over Benilde-LSGH with the 6-foot-7 bruiser capturing both the Season MVP and Finals MVP. Daep's father, Rommel, bared they will first go back home in Bicol to spend some time with their family before the younger Daep heads back to Manila and decides on his future.
"Sabi ko sa kanya pagkatapos nito 'wag muna siya mag-basketball. Kalimutan mo muna. Kasi nakita ko ‘yung pagod at sakripisyo niya.
Kahit dalawang linggo kalimutan mo muna. Uuwi tayong probinsya, then saka tayo mag-isip kung saan tayo pupunta," Rommel shared. [I told him, after this, don't play basketball for a bit.
Forget it for a bit. Because I saw his hard work and sacrifice. Even for just two weeks.
Let's go home to the province, then we'll think about where we'll go.] —JMB, GMA Integrated News.
