How United's internationals fared for their countries over the past week

Newcastle United players have once again caught the eye representing their countries during the latest round of internationals, demonstrating their prowess across the football world. The Magpies had several players on duty for their countries over the past week and, crucially, they have all reported back without any injury issues. The travel time is always a concern for Eddie Howe, but he looks to have a strong squad available to him for this weekend's Premier League clash with Brighton.

Here's how United's international brigade fared in the last week. The Italian’s performances have certainly vindicated his return to the national side under Luciano Spalletti. Following the ban he served for betting offences, it’s been very much a period of redemption for the midfielder.



He played 80 minutes in the 2-2 draw against Belgium and the full 90 minutes against Israel which Italy won 4-1. Anthony Gordon was the only one of the Newcastle triumvirate to figure for the Three Lions.

Following a frustrating Euro 2024 campaign, Gordon started his third consecutive England match in their shock 2-1 loss against Greece in the Nations League. He was substituted on the hour and replaced by Ollie Watkins after a performance which failed to scale the heights of so many of his club displays. Pope and Livramento were unused substitutes at Wembley with the full-back having been called up following a spate of withdrawals.

England returned to winning ways beating Finland in Helsinki but none of the Newcastle players featured. An impressive two matches for Newcastle’s most expensive goalkeeper, helping his nation to an impressive 2-1 win at Wembley against England followed by a clean sheet and 2-0 win against the Republic of Ireland. The experienced international is closing in on 50 caps for the Ethniki who are enjoying a rich vein of form.

Krafth reached his half century of caps during this international break. . An opening 2-2 draw against Slovakia saw the 30-year-old play only two minutes in stoppage time.

The defender impressed in the following game as Sweden ran out 3-0 winners in Estonia where Krafth played the full 90 minutes. After a promising start to the Premier League season, Hall was included in the England U21 squad for games against Ukraine and Azerbaijan. The 20-year-old full back played the entire game against Ukraine, enjoying some good moments as England won 2-1 courtesy of two late James McAtee goals.

Almiron started Paraguay’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Ecuador, clocking 75 minutes in a goalless draw. The winger then started the 2-1 win over Venezuela on Wednesday, The pair were named in England’s Under 18 squad, playing in a four-team tournament this month. Shahar played 69 minutes and Sanusi featured as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat to Sweden last Friday.
