Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) released a statement on the supposed “review” that the agency is doing for the Pepsi Paloma movie. The movie is about the life and tragic death of the late actress and is under the direction and production of Direk Darryl Yap. This movie awakened the controversy that shook the entertainment industry back in the 80s.
Veteran comedian-host Vic Sotto was mentioned in the teaser and he decided to file a petition for writ of habeas data and the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court partially granted him. Direk Darryl was ordered to remove the teaser on social media platforms. The director shared his message of gratitude after the decision was released because he pointed out that the court did not hinder the release of the movie which was set on February 5.
Then, Direk Darryl mentioned that their next step is to bring the movie to MTRCB for review. Regarding the Pepsi Paloma movie, the agency released a statement clarifying that they are not yet reviewing the movie because it has not completed yet the requirements. MTRCB stressed that PinoyFlix is required to submit clearances that the movie has no pending criminal case from the Regional Trial Court, no pending civil case from the Department of Justice, and no pending administrative case from the Office of the City Prosecutor.
As part of the standard review process, the agency reached out to the Legal Affairs Division of the movie’s distributor to inform them of the needed requirements. The agency also stressed that it strictly ensures that all the movies follow what is stated in Presidential Decree No.1986.
It added that all the applications will go through the three-person committee and if it is needed to go through another screening, this will be done by a committee composed of five people. “Ang MTRCB ay naninindigan na hindi nito ipagsasantabi ang maling impormasyon at anumang paninirang maaaring makasira sa reputasyon at mandato nitong protektahan ang interes ng publiko,” the agency stated..
