BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Greg James has confessed that "James" isn't his real surname, despite being known by it for the past 17 years. During an appearance on Kathy Burke's podcast 'Where There's A Will, There's A Wake', he revealed that his name had unintentionally become a secret. He shared with Kathy: "I'm writing a book.
It's my first non-fiction adult book. It's gonna come out next year, and I was writing a chapter on my name." He continued: "It's turned into a bit of a secret, but it's not a secret at all.
In that Greg James is not my full name." The radio presenter explained that James is actually his middle name, which he adopted as a surname during his student radio days to make himself more appealing to Radio 1 executives. He felt his actual surname, Milward, sounded "like a headteacher's name".

Greg admitted he wanted to choose a different name too late in the game, as he'd already been listed in the Radio Times, reports The Express . Despite this, he said: "I don't mind it.
It's an okay radio name, but, I should have been more imaginative." Kathy tried to reassure him, saying his name has a "bang bang" quality, but it seems he's not entirely convinced. The radio presenter is set to publish his debut book, with aspirations of emulating the success of his wife, Bella Mackie, author of the popular fiction novel How to Kill Your Family.
