Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena has reportedly had a “tense conversation” with manager Hansi Flick in the last few days after losing his place in the starting XI . Flick has made it clear that Wojciech Szczesny is now his No. 1, meaning Pena has been forced back on to the bench.
According to Diario Sport, the goalkeper has had a chat with his manager but it didn’t go too well and left Pena feeling it will be really difficult now to regain his place. Pena approached Flick as he wanted to know exactly why he had been replaced by Szczesny and it sound like he wasn’t too happy with the answers he received. The goalkeeper initially dropped out for Szczesny after being late for a team meeting but readily admitted his mistake to the coach.
However, it seems that Flick pointed out Pena was “not self-critical enough” and urged the goalkeeper to “accept the new reality.” We’ll have to wait and see what happens next but there’s no doubt now that Pena’s future at the club really is in doubt with a contract set to expire in 2026..
